How can I back up Pc data to a VHS tape?
First, let me start off by saying that I am well aware this is ridiculously inefficient, as magnetic tape storage would not be random-access. That being said, I think it’d be fun to at least be able to back up a few things to a VHS tape. Does anyone know how? I know it was done in the past, and with an analogue-out card hooked up to a VCR, I’d think it should be possible. Any suggestions?

well, theres two ways u can go:
1. find a program that will read/write data onto a vhs thru an analogue out (TV out i suppose) via optic encryption, then youd still need a tv-in since youd wanna be able to access that backed up data, dont you?……. better shot at writing it yourself i guess tho
2. find a maker for ancient vhs based “datasette”-drives” from the depths of the internet plus an adaptor that will allow you to run the RS232 plug into your modern day USB port and then find the proper software to run it , or build one yourself and again write your own software for it,…..
as you see its not impossible, but its a question of how much energy you wanna put into this thing, if you u think u can do it, go for it and post your results online, but if your not under house arrest by law (parents included) for like a year or something let me put it this way, its a piece of cake that dont exist, cool idea, creavtive usage of resources (20gigs on a vhs, max of 44.4G) but maybe ull just get an extra usb hardrive if you wanna back something up that size, or look into zipdrives……
